PORT ALLEN, La. (BRPROUD) — Three men were arrested on Tuesday after allegedly bringing drugs into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail.
According to Sheriff Mike Cazes, deputies got information from the jail administration about a scheme to sneak illegal drugs into the jail. During an investigation, detectives learned that Kardell Samuel, 20, of Baton Rouge talked to inmate Dervell Barnes, 36, about bringing drugs into the jail, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies seized 108 grams of methamphetamine and 46 Suboxone strips.
Samuel was arrested and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on two counts of possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics and conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal facility.
James Gianelloni, 45, of Baton Rouge was arrested and booked into jail on two counts of possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics and conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal facility.
Barnes was charged with conspiracy to introduce contraband into a penal facility.
The sheriff’s office said detectives determined that the suspects had ties to a place in Baton Rouge and notified the Baton Rouge police Street Crime Unit. Officers conducted a search warrant, seized 4.5 pounds of marijuana and four firearms and made an arrest, according to WBRSO.
Two of the guns seized were reportedly stolen.
