BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – You’re at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport and you’re a little hungry. So, you search for a vending machine.
You pass a number of food options, and spot something that stops you in your tracks. It’s an odd vending machine that doesn’t seem to sell snacks.
Upon closer inspection, you find yourself staring at a retired cigarette machine. It’s been transformed into a device that sells art.
According to Visit Baton Rouge, you’re looking at the Art-o-mat. It vends small works of art for only $5.
There are more than 200 active machines across the U.S. But BTR’s Art-o-mat is special. For one, it’s making history as the first of its kind in an airport. Secondly, this version was created specifically for Baton Rouge and features the works of nearly 22 contributing artists.
Art connoisseurs will be glad to know that the new vending machine will be unveiled Tuesday morning at the Baton Rouge Gallery in BTR’s terminal.
