BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Two children were injured by gunfire in Baton Rouge’s South Choctaw area Monday night, authorities say.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, a 3-year-old and 6-year-old were playing with an assault rifle in the 12000 block of La Margie Avenue around 9:22 p.m. when the gun fired multiple shots, injuring both of them.

According to BRPD, both of the children are expected to recover from their injuries.

Authorities say the incident is still under investigation.
