BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The 2023 Atlantic Hurricane season is right around the corner and the best time to prepare is now.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, is forecasting a near normal season with 12-17 named storms and 1-4 major hurricanes.

Last year ended up being an average season with 14 named storms including major hurricane Ian that made landfall over Florida in late September as a category 4.

Louisiana was quiet in terms of tropical activity last year, but we need to stay alert and prepared heading into the new season

Hurricane season officially begins June 1st and runs through November 30th.
