BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – An investigation into abuse at an intermediate care facility in the 100 block of W. Washington Street ended with Raynardo Mason, 33, of Baton Rouge in custody.
Mason was a direct service worker at Harmony Transitional Services when the alleged abuse took place on Wednesday, Nov. 30, according to the affidavit. The case was investigated by the Louisiana Department of Justice.
Investigators said the victim was a disabled man who needed to be watched all day. On Thursday, December 1, 2022, the victim went from an urgent care on Florida Boulevard to Baton Rouge General where he got a CT scan due to injuries to his eyes and face. Arrest documents said the scan uncovered a fracture in his orbital wall along with a hemorrhage in his eye.
The victim stated that Mason came into his bedroom and began slapping him in the face, according to the affidavit. A fight happened and the victim said Mason kicked him in the eyes, mouth, head and lips, according to investigators.
Another direct service worker at the facility described the bedroom as having blood everywhere. The affidavit states that Mason was fired after confessing to getting into a fight with the victim.
Mason was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday, March 9, and charged with cruelty to the infirmed. The Baton Rouge man remains behind bars on a $50,000 bond.
