Celebrating hometown hero

The Dutchtown High community is celebrating Super Bowl champion and Dutchtown High alumni Justin Reid, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with a parade and ceremony.

The parade starts at Alexander’s Harvest Market and ends at La. 73 and Heroman Road and is followed by a ceremony honoring Reid in Dutchtown Football stadium.

Sorrento Easter egg hunt Saturday

Visit the Sorrento Community Center, 7471 Main St. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for the Sorrento East Egg Hunt, which includes games, inflatables and food.

Colonial Stables hosts Easter Eggstravaganza

Visit Colonial Stables on Cornerview Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for the Easter Eggstravaganza.

The event will include an Easter egg hunt, food trucks, shopping, a kids zone and photos with the Easter Bunny.

Relay for Life

Cancer survivors and those fighting the disease will be joined by friends and family Saturday for the annual Ascension Relay for Life walk and fundraiser.

The event celebrates the lives of local cancer survivors, remembers lost loved ones, and aids the fight against a disease that has affected so many in the community.

The event will be held at River Parishes Community College, 925 W. Edenborne Pkwy., Gonzales.

So very bunny

The Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown is having a spring DIY session at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 25. Get ready for spring and add a charming bunny door hanger to greet your guests. To register, call (225) 673-8699.

The Arc collecting beads

The Arc of East Ascension is collecting Mardi Gras beads from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at its office, 1122 S. East Ascension Complex Blvd., Gonzales. For more information, call Christy Berry at (225) 621-2014 or email christy.berry@thearcea.org.

Inaugural Eats and Beats Fest

Mark your calendar for 7th District Volunteer Fire Department’s Inaugural Eats and Beats Fest set from 10 a.m. to midnight March 25 at the VFW Hall in Gonzales.

The event is raising money to outfit and equip a new service unit arriving this year.

The event will feature live music, food and spirit sales, a jambalaya cook-off and children’s activities.

The Dustin Lee Guedry Band is set to play from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Parish County Line closes things out from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Admission is $10.

 

Drop-off recycling

Residents can drop off their recycling at the Recycling Center at the Department of Public Works headquarters, 42077 Churchpoint Road, in Gonzales. Operating hours are from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Weight-loss club meets

Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets starting with weigh-in at 9:15 a.m. and meeting at 10 a.m. every Thursday at the Ascension Parish Library, 40300 La. 42, Prairieville.
