CENTRAL, La. (BRPROUD) – An infant was injured in a two-vehicle crash around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25. The crash took place at Hooper Road and Sullivan Road, according to the Central Police Department. The infant was not in a car seat at the time of the crash.

CPD confirmed that two people were transported to a local hospital including the infant. The driver of the vehicle that contained the infant “was cited for not having their child restrained in a car seat, careless operation and driving under suspension,” according to the Central Police Department.

Central PD highlighted this particular law in relation to the crash. The law states that “A child who is younger than the age of two years shall be restrained in a rear-facing child restraint system that complies with all applicable federal regulations until the child reaches the weight or height limit of the child restraint system as set by the manufacturer.”

CPD said they will be sending an officer to get training on how to properly place and install child car seats. That officer will then be able to train residents.

The Central Fire Department also responded to the wreck. CPD is still working to figure out what caused the crash, and their investigation remains ongoing.
