PLAQUEMINE, La. (BRPROUD) – The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office took five individuals into custody after they allegedly tried to introduce contraband into the Iberville Parish Jail. The contraband was crystal meth, according to Sheriff Brett Stassi.
Stassi said that Darius Washington, 35, was the mastermind behind a plan to get the drugs inside the jail. The four other people who were apprehended tried to bring the drugs inside the jail, according to Stassi. IPSO was able to keep the drugs from entering the jail.
The five people who were arrested and their charges are listed below:
Darius Washington, 35:
- Principal to Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics
- Principal to introduction of Contraband
Jamie Guidry, 41:
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics
- Introduction of Contraband
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of a CDS in the Presence of a Juvenile
Jewell Herron, 42:
- Introduction of Contraband
Coy Simpson, 45:
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II Narcotics
- Introduction of Contraband
Kerwin Williams, 40
- Introduction of Contraband
Sheriff Stassi emphasized the seriousness of the situation. Stassi said, “if the drugs were fentanyl and they had gotten into the jail, it would have been devastating to the jail population.”
