BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A teen was arrested Saturday night after a Denham Springs store clerk was shot during an armed robbery attempt.

According to a Facebook post from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies were sent to a convenience store on Springfield Road around 11 p.m.

Sheriff Jason Ard said the investigation determined that a female clerk was shot in the upper torso during an armed robbery. He said she was taken to a hospital for care and is in critical but stable condition.

“We learned the armed suspect entered the store and demanded cash,” Ard said. “There was a struggle. That suspect left the store, but detectives were able to quickly apprehend him — a 17-year-old male.”

The teen was arrested and booked into the Florida Parishes Juvenile Detention Center on charges of attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.

The investigation is ongoing, according to LPSO.
