BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The 6th annual Soul Food Festival made its way back to the capital city. Business owners and vendors were lined up to sell their products and to give people a taste of what Louisiana is all about.
Artists from across the state gave people live free performances because what’s Louisiana without some bayou blues and tunes to keep everyone going? Visitors and locals were in for a treat as live music played and some of Louisiana’s best-skilled cooks showed off their work.
Louisiana is one of many states known for its unique culture and food like no other. The Soul Food Festival captured the pride well-renowned cooks and businesses have.
“I’m from here but I live out of town, I flew back in to come out for this event. Soul Food is part of what brings people together, food is part of what brings us together in Louisiana, so it’s great to bring people from all these different cultures together,” said visitor, Tanmay Mathur.
The Soul Food Cooking Competition is one of the many reasons people attend the festival. It highlights regional favorites from Louisiana and five other states, and with each prepared dish comes a story. Gisele Haralson was the festival’s host this year and she said getting support for the event was effortless.
“Individuals love that this is Southern Louisiana and that’s what it’s all about. What is great food associated with, Southern food and that’s what it’s all about it’s about the soul and Louisiana is a state that’s all about soul music, good eating, and just great people,” said Haralson.
With a cooking contest and a plethora of soul food for locals and visitors to try, it was not only a good event for the capital city economically but was also a good way to bring the community together.
