LSU men’s basketball coach Matt McMahon said Monday that point guard Jalen Cook is currently suspended from the team.

McMahon said Cook, who transferred back to LSU from Tulane last spring, did not accompany the team for Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt.

McMahon said at his weekly news conference that Cook, a former Walker High School star, “is currently suspended for failure to meet the standards that I have in place for the program.”

Later, the coach was asked if Cook would be allowed to return to the program with two regular-season games and the Southeastern Conference tournament left this season, McMahon said, “we’ll evaluate it day-to-day moving forward.”

Cook has played in 13 games with nine starts. He is averaging 15.6 points and 2.8 assists per game. He missed five of seven games with what was described as a lower leg issue before being suspended.
